After their morale-boosting 1-0 victory against Ghana in Soweto on Tuesday, Bafana left South Africa on Wednesday to fly to Morocco via Dubai. They have now finally arrived in the Moroccan city of Marrakech, a vibrant and historic imperial city known as the “Red City” for its pink/red clay buildings.
Bafana will play their first match in the Afcon 2025/26 tournament against Angola at the Marrakech Stadium on Monday, 22 December 2025. The kick-off will be at 19h00, South African time.
The team that beat Ghana in Soweto on Tuesday will be reinforced by the arrival in Morocco of the foreign legion of Lyle Forster, Sphephelo Sithole and Shandre Campbell to give Angola a run for their money in its first game of the tournament.
It is worth noting both Bafana coaches Hugo Broos and Helman Mkhalele have expressed their dissatisfaction with FIFA’s decision to allow foreign clubs to release African players very late for national duty and thus disorganizing African countries in preparing for this premier African tournament.
